Cambridge University thesis "British Puppetry 1955 -1995'

Dominic is a Maker and Performer of mask and puppetry. 

In 2013 Dominic travelled around the UK, collecting stories from puppeteers, building a 20th century history of UK puppetry. 
He wrote a thesis on the subject. The companies he discovered through this work, such as The Bread and Puppet Theatre and Welfare State International, have influenced his own mask and puppet designs. 
 

Manor Farm was home to a collective of artists. We orchestrated and performed multi-sensory promenade experiences that played with scale and sound. Audiences became a collective.

‘The Gets’ were a chance to move differently, through expansive space, with a heightened sense of the surreal.

For ODD ARTS, Dominic works as a facilitator, theatre maker and project manager (winner of The 2014 Spirit of Manchester Award for ‘Most innovative group’). 
He has managed and delivered over 50 diverse projects for ODD ARTS, in schools, prisons (HMP Manchester, HMP Hindley, Barton Moss Secure Centre, Lincolnshire Secure Centre) and for organizations from the Brit Awards to the NHS, honing his theatre making, workshop designing and facilitation skills. He has acted, devised and facilitated in over 100 forum theatre performances.

Most recently, Dominic has developed and delivered courses in Bunraku puppetry for young people in prison.

Based on the story of Nelson The Clown, and the suspension bridge tragedy of 1845. Originally commissioned by SeaChange Arts and performed at the Drill House. This piece is still in development with Lucy Enskat of Hocus Pocus Theatre.

Having received money from Arts Council England, I began two local schemes. Firstly, SURPRISING BREAD. Every day I baked a loaf of bread and delivered it to a doorstep with a note - ‘Pick someone to receive tomorrow’s loaf!’. And so on and so on, the bread travelled all over London’s N4. This felt like an artful way of weaving our communities together at a time of atomisation.

Secondly, I wanted our streets to feel like stages. So I organised a summer ‘Doorstep Variety Show’ and ‘Halloween Parade’, COVID secure. They were a massive success, and have sustained us through these sparser stretches of isolation.

‘What Fowl Play’ - was commissioned by Enfield Council as part of this year’s Summer Festival. I wrote, designed and directed a promenade piece for families.
